ALUMINIUM CLAD STEEL WIRES
THE USE OF HIGHLY-RESISTANT STEEL WIRES IN CONJUNCTION WITH A THICK ALUMINIUM COATING GIVES CONSIDERABLE ADVANTAGES COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL GALVANISED STEEL WIRES.
LUMPI-BERNDORF has been processing ALUMINIUM CLAD STEEL WIRES since 1970. These are highly-resistant steel wires that are coated with aluminium in a special extrusion process and then drawn out to the required final diameter using a hydrodynamic drawing process. They are used in overhead conductors as a replacement for galvanised steel.
ALUMINIUM CLAD STEEL WIRES are used to produce our own overhead conductors and are also supplied to the cable industry.

HIGH CORROSION RESISTANCE
Due to their thick layer of aluminium, ALUMINIUM CLAD STEEL WIRES have a similar level of corrosion resistance as aluminium wires with the same diameter. The higher corrosion resistance compared with galvanised steel wire results from the purity of the aluminium coating. Numerous experiments in Austria and abroad confirm these findings.
PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS
Conductors with aluminium clad steel wires compared to conductors of the same design with galvanised steel wires:
- Longer service life in industrial and salt water atmospheres
- Greater fault current
- Higher tensile strength and continuous endurance strength
- Increased conductivity
- Reduced transmission losses
- Lower weight and therefore lower tower load or lower sag
